The Yolk Marketplace

I had the great pleasure of developing the branding for the Yolk Marketplace, which aims to be a friendly small-scale affordable gourmet grocery store for a diverse and dynamic local Californian community, providing access to fresh, healthy foods. Their goal is to provide a shopping experience that is convenient, reliable, and connects visitors to their community and the world beyond.

I worked closely with the founder of the Yolk to develop the Branding to reflect these aims, and to translate them into a look that is fresh, friendly, whimsical, appealing and engaging. I chose a revival wood type typeface (slightly customized) for the main part of the logo because it has a unique quirkiness, a friendly, memorable presence, and feels both familiar yet modern — all attributes we wanted the branding to express. A strong, vibrant color palette and original illustrations were designed for this brand that is not afraid to mix up strong graphics with playful, memorable messaging.
